Truck driver found fully at fault in flour truck crash near Erbil: traffic directorate

ERBIL, Iraq — Erbil's Traffic Directorate has concluded its preliminary investigation into a crash involving a 35-ton flour truck on the Erbil-Koya road, placing 100% of the blame on the truck driver. Directorate spokesperson Lt. Col. Heymin Emin said the accident occurred around 11:00 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle near the Kasnezan area, causing it to veer into the opposite lane. The truck struck more than eight vehicles, rendering many of them inoperable. Initial field assessments had put the toll at four deaths and eight injuries, but officials said the final count has not been confirmed because some bystanders transported the wounded to hospitals on their own. Traffic teams have completed the accident diagram and assigned fault to the driver, according to the directorate. The final report is to be appended to the case file and submitted to the investigating judge. A formal casualty figure from health authorities is still pending.
