Dhi Qar provincial council fails to convene session on ex-governor's financial violations

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Dhi Qar Provincial Council was unable to hold an extraordinary session called by its speaker to discuss financial violations attributed to former governor Murtada al-Ibrahimi in a Federal Financial Supervision Bureau report, officials said, citing a lack of quorum. Several political blocs and council members did not attend the session. According to officials, members of the Nahj al-Watani, Hikma, Ma'in and State of Law coalitions, along with the Sumeriun bloc, were absent. The Federal Financial Supervision Bureau report found that al-Ibrahimi committed 30 financial violations that ran counter to applicable laws and procedures and caused losses amounting to billions of dinars. The council speaker had called the session to address the alleged violations and take the necessary steps in light of the report. Because the required quorum was not met, the session could not proceed and the item was not placed on the council's agenda for the scheduled date. No new date for the session was immediately announced.
