LONDON — Tottenham have agreed a £100 million transfer fee with Newcastle United for Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali, a club record, according to British media reports. The 25-year-old is set to undergo a medical and finalize personal terms before the move is completed.
Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in the summer of 2023 for £64 million and has been a regular in the club's starting lineup. A holding midfielder, he has been noted at St James' Park for his passing range and work rate.
The fee would surpass Tottenham's previous transfer record of £55 million paid to Lyon for Tanguy Ndombélé in 2019. Tottenham are looking to strengthen their midfield options as they continue their Premier League campaign.
No further details on the timing of the medical or personal terms were immediately available.
