BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi authorities dismantled an international drug trafficking network operating in Maysan Province, arresting three foreign nationals, the General Directorate of Drug Affairs announced Sunday.
The suspects were caught red-handed during an operation conducted by the Maysan Drug Affairs Directorate. Officers seized 1 kilogram of crystal methamphetamine in their possession.
The network had been transporting the drug into Iraq, according to the directorate's statement.
Intelligence and field units will continue monitoring drug dealers both domestically and internationally, the directorate said, adding that Iraq would not be permitted to serve as a transit route or operational base for criminal organizations.
The operation was carried out with support from the Iraqi judiciary. No further details were immediately available.
