Three children rescued after ride malfunctions at Baghdad amusement park

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Three children were rescued after becoming stuck on a malfunctioning ride at an amusement park in Baghdad's Karkh side on Thursday evening, the capital's Civil Defense Directorate said. The children were trapped on an attraction called the "Star Flyer" in the Hurriyet area. Special rescue teams were dispatched to the scene and used a ladder-equipped vehicle designed to reach elevated locations to bring the children safely down, according to the directorate. The children showed no signs of injury and were handed over to their families. The Civil Defense Directorate said the rescue operation was completed successfully during nighttime hours and noted that similar accidents have occurred repeatedly. Relevant authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the malfunction. The directorate said legal action will be taken against the amusement park's management in line with applicable regulations. It also stressed that entertainment venues' compliance with public safety standards will be strictly monitored.
