BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Unidentified assailants stole 38 million Iraqi dinars from a farmer in central Kirkuk on Sunday, according to a security source.
The source from Kirkuk police said the robbery occurred in the Shorja neighborhood, when the farmer withdrew the money from a bank shortly after receiving payment for his wheat crop โ funds he had been waiting to collect for roughly two years. The assailants broke a window of his vehicle, took the cash and fled in an unknown direction.
Security forces have launched an investigation and are reviewing footage from surveillance cameras in the area to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, the source said. The stolen amount represented two years of the farmer's earnings.
Legal proceedings in the case are ongoing, according to the source, who provided no further details.
