Five killed, 27 wounded in separate mass shootings in Chicago and Trenton

CHICAGO, United States — Two mass shootings late Saturday in the U.S. states of Illinois and New Jersey left at least five people dead and 27 others wounded, according to local police. In the first attack, gunfire broke out at 11:37 p.m. local time in Washington Park in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, where officers were attempting to disperse a large crowd, Chicago police told ABC News. A 35-year-old man struck multiple times was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Hospital, while nine others — five men and four women aged between 23 and 45 — were treated at area hospitals. Police said more than one gunman may have been involved. The second shooting occurred at 12:25 a.m. local time on Locust Street in the Greenwood and Hamilton neighborhoods of south-central Trenton, according to the city's police department. Two people were killed and nine wounded, with the injured taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office homicide unit is investigating the incident.
