Tehran Rejects Trump’s Claims on Nuclear Disarmament and Hormuz Strait

Tehran has dismissed recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the removal of naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz and the destruction of Iranian nuclear materials as a mixture of fact and fabrication. Iranian officials clarified that the alleged requirement for the dismantling or destruction of nuclear assets is absent from the formal memorandum currently under discussion. The memorandum instead outlines the immediate release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets and provisions for a ceasefire in Lebanon. Tehran maintains that these stipulated conditions must be fully addressed before any progress can be made on subsequent phases concerning sanctions and nuclear policy. President Trump had previously asserted that U.S. forces have already neutralized a significant portion of naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, tasking Iran with the removal of the remainder. He further emphasized that Iran must be permanently prevented from acquiring nuclear weapons. Regarding the financial components of the negotiations, Trump stated that no future fund transfers would be executed. Iran continues to insist on the resolution of the memorandum’s existing terms as a prerequisite for further diplomatic engagement.
