Study Finds Nanohydroxyapatite and Essential Oils Effective Against Tooth Decay

New research indicates that toothpastes combining nanohydroxyapatite with essential oils can protect tooth enamel and significantly inhibit the growth of decay-causing bacteria. The study tested experimental formulations containing coconut, cinnamon, and tea tree oils on human tooth samples and Streptococcus mutans bacteria. Results showed that cinnamon oil provided the strongest antibacterial effect, nearly eliminating bacterial proliferation. Meanwhile, coconut oil was most effective in increasing the hardness of damaged enamel. The findings suggest that integrating these components could provide a viable alternative to traditional methods for preventing dental caries.
