State of Law Coalition MP Threatens Legal Action Over Statements

State of Law Coalition lawmaker Osman al-Şeybani said he will initiate legal proceedings against Abdulhadi al-Saadawi, after rejecting statements he said do not reflect the truth. He said he has been the target of a systematic smear campaign and that the remarks amount to a serious attack not only on him but also on the Iraq Police Academy and internal security institutions. Al-Şeybani said his educational background and career path are fully transparent and known to the public, from his entry into the Police Academy and graduation to his resignation and later candidacy for the Iraqi Parliament. He said all stages of that process have been clear and above board. He stressed the academy’s long-standing reputation, noting its more than 100-year history, and said the accusations levelled against him are baseless. He added that the claims were made in line with political agendas and do not conform to the norms of political courtesy. The lawmaker said he will respond through legal channels and use his rights to confront the situation. He also reiterated his confidence in the Iraqi judicial system, saying he believes justice will prevail in cases of rights violations.
