Some Peshmerga retirees in Sulaymaniyah still await May salaries

SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq — Some Peshmerga retirees in Sulaymaniyah have still not received their May salaries, despite the Kurdistan Regional Government saying distribution began on May 26. The retirees said payments remained slow after the Eid holiday and that only a limited number of people had been able to collect their salaries. Retiree Sabir Hasan said the number of staff assigned to the distribution process was not enough for the number of applicants. Hasan said the same problem recurs every month and called on officials to resolve it and ensure salaries are paid on time.
