A new agricultural collection and sales center in Duhok has increased local farmers' incomes by up to 48 percent per kilogram by facilitating direct access to buyers. Supported by international aid, the facility integrates smallholders, displaced persons, and refugees into a unified commercial supply chain.
The center provides essential post-harvest processing, including sorting, washing, and packaging services. These operations are supported by short-term cold storage capabilities that preserve product quality before market distribution.
Initial market performance has been strong, with an inaugural delivery of 1.5 tons of potatoes selling out within 24 hours. This successful launch has already generated follow-up demand, resulting in an additional three-ton order.
By streamlining the transition from farm to market, the project reduces reliance on intermediaries and improves the economic stability of vulnerable populations in the region. The initiative serves as a critical infrastructure investment for the Duhok agricultural sector.
