MOSUL, Iraq — A 42-year-old woman from the town of Wana, north of Mosul, has tested positive for Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, bringing the number of confirmed cases in Nineveh province to six in recent weeks, a medical source at the Nineveh Health Directorate said.
The woman was admitted on June 10 to Ibn Sina Teaching Hospital as a suspected case. A blood sample was sent the following day to the Central Public Health Laboratory in Baghdad, where results returned positive. The patient has since been transferred to Al-Shifa Specialist Hospital for treatment.
Health officials said case follow-up and medical precautions remain underway, and that public health warnings on animal contact and food safety are expected to be reinforced across the province. No further details on the patient’s condition were immediately available.
