Six detained in Duhok for drinking alcohol on Mount Zawa

DUHOK, Iraq — Police in the Duhok Directorate of Public Safety detained six people for consuming alcohol in public on the summit of Mount Zawa above the city center, the directorate said on Tuesday. Spokesman Lt. Col. Heymen Suleiman said officers were dispatched after a report late on Monday night that six individuals were openly drinking alcohol on the mountain peak in the Semil district. The suspects were apprehended and the materials in their possession were seized, Suleiman said. The six were referred to the relevant court as part of an investigation opened under Article 386 of the Iraqi Penal Code. Suleiman also warned that consuming alcohol in public spaces in a manner that disturbs others is prohibited and that violators will face legal action. No further details on the identity of those detained were immediately available.
