Iraq arrests suspect in killing of security officer and his wife in Kut

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Interior Ministry said Sunday that a suspect who killed a security officer and his wife during a robbery in the city of Kut has been arrested. The ministry said teams from the Wasit Intelligence Directorate detained the suspect within five hours of the incident. The case began with the killing of the security officer and his spouse at their home in the al-Hakim neighborhood of Kut, the ministry said. Deputy Interior Ministry Undersecretary Hussein al-Awadi ordered the formation of a high-level security investigation team to pursue the case. Investigators worked through the night and located the suspect within five hours, according to the ministry statement. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the detained person.
