Selahaddin Declares Holiday for Speycer Massacre 12th Anniversary

TIKRIT, Iraq — The Selahaddin Governorate announced a public holiday on June 11, 2026, to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the Speycer massacre that occurred in 2014. The decision applies to all official institutions within the province. Governor Heitham al-Zahwan said the holiday was declared to facilitate participation by martyrs' families and the public in commemoration events. He noted the decision also aims to support administrative, service and security preparations for the memorial ceremonies. Zahwan described the Speycer massacre as one of the heaviest terrorist crimes targeting the Iraqi people. He emphasized that remembering the martyrs reinforces national unity values and ensures their sacrifices are not forgotten. The governorate and local institutions are continuing preparations for the anma program scheduled to mark the anniversary.
