Russia warns of severe consequences if Bushehr nuclear plant is hit

KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait — Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said recent attacks on Iran's Bushehr Province did not strike the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, warning that any such hit would carry extremely serious consequences. He added that an attack on the Bushehr facility would have severe repercussions for all Gulf states and called for the strikes to be halted immediately. Ulyanov's remarks came after Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev said earlier that Bushehr Province had been targeted in an airstrike but the nuclear plant itself was undamaged. Posting on social media, Ulyanov said any attack on a nuclear facility would constitute a clear violation of international law. The US military carried out heavy airstrikes against Iran overnight Wednesday, with US Central Command saying the action was a response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. On Thursday, Central Command reported that roughly 90 targets had been struck, while Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it had fired on two US bases in Kuwait and two in Bahrain.
