BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iran's Revolutionary Guards set up covert cells in southern Iraq to launch attacks on Gulf states during the latest round of military confrontation in the region, Reuters reported, citing Iraqi sources.
According to the agency, the cells initiated operations against Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates from the cities of Basra and Samawa. It said April operations targeted facilities and sites in the three Gulf countries throughout the conflict, with missiles among the weapons used.
Sources who spoke to Reuters said the network was coordinated directly by Iran's Revolutionary Guards. The reported use of Iraqi territory for strikes against neighboring countries raises questions about Baghdad's oversight of its sovereignty and security policies.
