DHI QAR, Iraq โ Residents of the Fuwad district in Iraq's southern Dhi Qar province took to the streets on Monday to protest prolonged power outages, blocking roads with burning tires and demanding the removal of the local electricity director.
The demonstrators cited insufficient electricity supply as they shut off traffic in several areas. Clashes broke out between security forces and protesters during the unrest, according to local reports. Protesters called for the dismissal of Mohammed Ruwaydi, the head of Dhi Qar's electricity directorate.
Power cuts in the province have stretched on for an extended period, disrupting daily life for residents. Protest activity concentrated in the eastern part of Fuwad, with demonstrators gathering around public buildings.
It remained unclear whether authorities had issued any statement on the demonstrations. No further details were immediately available.
