Portuguese amateur footballer Kevin Castro has died at the age of 25 after collapsing during a friendly match, Portuguese media reported. The incident occurred at the start of a preseason friendly between Real Sport Clube and Estrela da Amadora, two amateur clubs in Portugal.
Castro was given first aid on the sidelines, including cardiac massage with a defibrillator, before being taken to hospital, according to Portuguese press reports. He was pronounced dead despite medical efforts.
The match was postponed following the incident. Real Sport Clube later published a statement mourning Castro, describing him as an inseparable part of the club's family and saying he had left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him on and off the pitch.
