BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Police in Baghdad's Karkh district said Wednesday they had identified and detained the suspect in an early-morning shooting in the western Shu'la neighborhood, in which a man was killed by his nephew. The Karkh police command said officers and the Shu'la emergency response unit were dispatched after the victim was found shot, and that a review of security camera footage showed a masked gunman following him on a motorcycle.
According to the command, the suspect opened fire as the victim stepped out of a tuk-tuk and walked toward his home. The weapon and clothing used in the attack were recovered during a raid that led to the arrest, the statement said.
The suspect confessed during interrogation that he killed his uncle by marriage over a family dispute, the police command added. He has been referred to the judiciary, and his statements have been certified by the court, authorities said.
