Iraq says international drug-trafficking network dismantled in Babil

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq’s Interior Ministry said on Wednesday that an international drug-trafficking network comprising three foreign suspects had been dismantled in Babil province. The ministry’s Directorate General for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances said the Babil narcotics unit carried out the operation after an extended intelligence investigation and surveillance. The suspects included one woman, the ministry said. Authorities seized 5 kilograms of crystal narcotics, with part of the quantity reportedly concealed inside one suspect’s abdomen. The Interior Ministry described the operation as uncovering an international network. It said the suspects had been referred to judicial authorities. The directorate said intelligence and security operations aimed at tracking drug dealers and disrupting trafficking sources would continue.
