STURBRIDGE, Massachusetts โ One person died in a shooting early Thursday at a hotel in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, where Scotland national team supporters were staying ahead of a tournament match, according to CBS News.
Police said they received reports of gunfire at the hotel at 12:55 a.m. local time on the night of June 18-19. Investigators believe a woman who was eight months pregnant drove a sport utility vehicle into the side of the building, exited the vehicle, entered the hotel and opened fire while shouting angrily at specific individuals.
Witness Stuart McCaffrey, a Scotland supporter, said the woman drove into the property before going inside and firing several shots into a room. U.S. police attempted to persuade the attacker to drop her weapon and surrender, but she died by suicide before being taken into custody.
The incident comes a day after a separate shooting near the England national team's camp that left several people injured.
