Oman signals near agreement on temporary corridor in Strait of Hormuz

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi said he was hopeful that practical arrangements could be reached on a temporary corridor in the Strait of Hormuz and the restoration of safe navigation. In a post on X following talks in Tehran with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, al-Busaidi said the Strait of Hormuz and navigation had been on the agenda. He added that next steps on the strait's future management and a lasting solution would be taken in due course under Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum. Araghchi said Iran's commitment to peace and stability has been met with firm diplomacy among its neighbors. He described talks with Pakistani and Omani delegations as focused on regional solutions, citing a proposed new corridor, joint demining efforts and a future management mechanism for the strait as examples of the work under discussion.
