Oman's foreign minister says temporary Strait of Hormuz transit corridor to be announced soon

MUSCAT, Oman — Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi announced that a temporary transit corridor through the Strait of Hormuz will be disclosed shortly, as part of efforts to restore safe navigation in the strategic waterway. Speaking after talks with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, al-Busaidi said practical arrangements to secure shipping in the strait are also expected to be unveiled soon. Al-Busaidi described the discussions with Araghchi as constructive, adding that broader questions over the administration of the Strait of Hormuz would be addressed in the future. He said a lasting settlement would be pursued under Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum at an appropriate time. The Omani minister said consultations would continue with regional partners to support peace, cooperation, stability and freedom of navigation in the area. No further details on the timing or scope of the temporary corridor were immediately available.
