U.S. chipmaker Nvidia announced an agreement with South Korea's SK Telecom to build an AI cloud data center in South Korea at gigawatt scale, with the first AI factory targeted to begin operations by 2027. The joint statement said the project will support sovereign AI services for Korean institutions and industries, with potential expansion to other Asian regions. No investment figure was disclosed.
Nvidia also entered a multi-year technology partnership with SK hynix, the memory chip manufacturer, to develop advanced memory components used in AI systems that have faced supply shortages. The companies said the agreement will support advanced manufacturing processes and global AI infrastructure investments.
The announcements followed Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's weekend in Seoul, where he met with technology sector representatives and appeared on a television program before the statements were released.
