Norway beats Brazil 2-1 to reach 2026 World Cup quarterfinals

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Norway advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup with a 2-1 victory over Brazil in the round of 16 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Friday. The first half ended goalless, with Brazil missing a chance to take the lead in the 14th minute when Bruno Guimarães struck a penalty that Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland saved. After the break, Erling Haaland headed Norway in front in the 79th minute, then doubled the advantage with a long-range strike from outside the penalty area in the 90th. Brazil pulled a goal back in the 10th minute of stoppage time through a Neymar penalty, but the comeback attempt fell short. Norway will face the winner of the England–Mexico match in the quarterfinals.
