Global spending on nuclear weapons by nine nuclear-armed states reached $119 billion in 2025, according to a report by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons published Monday. The figure represents roughly a 20 percent increase from the previous year and the highest level since ICAN began tracking such spending in 2020.
The United States accounted for $69.2 billion of that total, with its spending on nuclear arsenals rising by 22 percent. U.S. spending exceeded the combined nuclear weapons expenditure of all other nuclear-armed states.
China ranked second at $13.5 billion, followed by Britain at $12.6 billion. Russia allocated $9.5 billion to its nuclear programs, reflecting a 6 percent increase.
No further details on other nuclear states' spending were immediately available.
