Baghdad's Green Zone reopens after security operation

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Baghdad's Green Zone was reopened to traffic and pedestrians on Wednesday after security forces completed an operation codenamed "Fajr," security sources said. The zone had been closed as part of the operation. During the operation, authorities carried out widespread detentions, with 21 suspects taken into custody so far. Officials said the detention process was ongoing and that the operation was launched during the current government period. Security forces stated that inspections in the zone would continue and that searches targeting suspected individuals would persist. The Green Zone, which houses Iraqi government institutions and foreign diplomatic missions, reopens as daily life in the capital begins returning to normal. The Green Zone is routinely closed to traffic on Wednesdays.
