NAJAF, Iraq โ€” The head of Najaf's Security Committee said all roads leading into the city center remain open to visitors, with only the area around the Imam Ali Shrine closed for security reasons. Brigadier General Mohammed Abdulwahab Sukker, who also commands the Border Forces, told the official Iraqi news agency that the security plan is being carried out in coordination with Interior Ministry units and involves traffic, civil defense, border forces and intelligence services. Heavy pedestrian traffic has been entering Najaf on foot from the neighboring provinces of Karbala, Babil and Diwaniyah, the committee said, with the peak of the visit stretching from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening. Authorities reported no security breaches or incidents recorded so far during the operation. Health posts and ambulances have been placed on standby as part of the plan, with logistical support provided for the expected crowds. Visitors were also urged to comply with security and public order rules during the pilgrimage.
