Mosul Municipality has begun removing officials’ photographs from streets and public spaces in line with official government directives, following instructions aimed at ending the display of leaders’ images in state institutions and highlighting service-focused work instead. The move is being carried out under the supervision of the Nineveh governor and the mayor.
A municipal official said the removal campaign was launched under the follow-up of the Nineveh governor and the mayor of Mosul, adding that the first image taken down was a photograph of the Nineveh governor from one street. The official said all photographs will be removed from different areas over the coming days.
The municipality said the work is being implemented in accordance with formal instructions. Several state institutions have begun applying the directives gradually.
Prime Minister Ali Zidi had ordered an end to the practice of hanging officials’ photographs in government offices and called for greater emphasis on service-oriented work.
