ADEN, Yemen โ€” Forces aligned with the internationally recognized Yemeni government said a military commander and two bodyguards were killed in an armed attack in the El-Abr district of Hadramaut's desert region. The Counter-Terrorism Defense Forces said in a statement that commander Osama al-Redfani and his bodyguards died in what it described as a "treacherous assassination operation" in the El-Abr area. Military sources said three armed individuals opened fire on al-Redfani in the district, killing him along with two of his bodyguards. The Counter-Terrorism Defense Forces said efforts are ongoing to track down the assailants and hand them over to the justice system. No further details were immediately available on the group behind the attack. A condolence statement issued by the First Military Region Command, a government-aligned body, identified al-Redfani as a former commander of the Fourth Brigade of the Second Division of the Dar al-Watan Forces. The commander's current assignment was not disclosed. No additional information was provided on the circumstances or timing of the attack. Separately, the commander of Yemen's Emergency Forces announced a reward of 50,000 Saudi riyals for information leading to the capture of the attackers.
