MAYSAN, Iraq โ Maysan Police Directorate announced the formation of an investigation committee to look into an engineer protest held outside the Maysan Oil Company, according to a written statement.
The statement said a group of engineers gathered in front of the company's gate to press their demands, causing a brief disruption to entry and exit movements. Police said the resulting "limited congestion" was brought under control quickly and no injuries were recorded.
The directorate said the committee has been tasked with examining the details of the incident and reviewing the conduct of security forces during the protest. It added that any violations against the demonstrators are rejected and that protecting protesters and safeguarding their rights remains a core responsibility.
Separately, video clips shared on social media appeared to show scuffles between security forces and the engineers, who were reportedly demanding jobs following the withdrawal of foreign companies from the province. The footage showed demonstrators being dispersed using force.
