TEHRAN, Iran — TEHRAN — Iranian state television reported multiple loud explosions heard at sea off the southern port city of Sirik, near the Strait of Hormuz. The cause of the blasts was not immediately clear. In a brief broadcast, Iranian state TV also reported a second explosion off the coast of Sirik. Sources who spoke to Iranian television linked the sounds to management of the Strait of Hormuz and its closure, without providing further details. Sirik is among the coastal towns closest to the strait, a narrow chokepoint through which a significant share of global oil shipments pass. The reported explosions came as US President Donald Trump said Thursday that strikes planned against Iran for that night had been called off. Trump claimed Iran had accepted the final terms of an agreement with the United States, without elaborating. No official Iranian authority had publicly confirmed the cause or source of the explosions as of the broadcast, and the circumstances surrounding the reported blasts remained unclear.
