Lavrov Tells Rubio Russia Launched Strikes on Military Sites in Kiev

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Russian forces had launched organized attacks on facilities in Kiev, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. Lavrov said the operations were a response to attacks carried out from Kiev and that Russia was targeting strategic sites in the capital used to meet Ukrainian forces’ needs. The ministry said Lavrov made the remarks during a phone call with Rubio and informed him of the strikes on military facilities in Kiev. Russia described the attacks as retaliation against Ukrainian military activity. During the conversation, which came as tensions continued between Belarus and Ukraine, Lavrov also reminded the U.S. side of the agreements reached at the highest level in Anchorage regarding the Ukraine conflict.
