WASHINGTON, United States โ Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said developments surrounding Iran can only be resolved through an agreement that reflects the interests of all parties. Speaking to reporters at the end of a visit to Mozambique, Lavrov said Russia shares a common position on developments involving Iran, the Strait of Hormuz and the broader Gulf region.
The minister stressed that the issue must be addressed not only for Iran, its neighbors and the United States, but for all countries affected in various ways by the current situation's negative impact on the global economy. He noted that Russia believes the matter can only be resolved through negotiation and that diplomacy must be brought to the fore.
According to the briefing, relations between Washington and Tehran have recently entered a new period of escalation, with the dialogue process stalled and mutual accusations increasing. The dispute over the Strait of Hormuz and freedom of maritime navigation has deepened, with each side linking any easing of tensions to its own conditions, making diplomatic efforts more difficult.
