BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The head of Anbar's tourism directorate said a large archaeological site was discovered about a week ago in the Buhunfer area of Kherme district in Anbar province. Director Zuhur Abd Mohammed said the historical areas buried beneath the ground in the province far outnumber those unearthed so far.
Abd Mohammed said the newly discovered site has not yet received adequate media attention and noted that Anbar hosts numerous archaeological locations. He said a section of the Baghdadi area has been expropriated for the establishment of a comprehensive tourism city, with the project currently in the research and preparation phase.
The province's main tourist sites are Baghdadi, the nawair in the ancient city of Hit and the planned tourism city, according to Abd Mohammed, who added that projects such as the International Anbar Hotel have been completed. He said Anbar has the potential to become a significant tourism hub and called for newly discovered but undeveloped sites to be opened for investment.
