Kuwait says air defenses engaged missiles and drones that violated its airspace

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Kuwait's Defense Ministry said early Wednesday that two ballistic missiles and 13 drones violated the country's airspace, and that air defense systems engaged the incoming projectiles. The ministry said in a written statement that the violation came from different directions and altitudes, and that necessary measures were being carried out in coordination with relevant authorities. The ministry did not immediately identify the source of the missiles and drones. Operations to neutralize the incoming weapons continued, Kuwaiti authorities said, adding that defense preparations remained active to protect civilian areas amid rising regional tensions. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps said earlier Wednesday that its strikes had hit the U.S. Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and 85 U.S. military facilities at the Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain with ballistic missiles and drones. Kuwaiti officials did not confirm damage inside the country in the initial statement, and the ministry said further details would be released as the operation proceeded.
