Kurdistan Region says 2,500 MW lost after Koramur gas field halts output

ERBIL, Iraq — The Kurdistan Regional Government said electricity production fell by 2,500 megawatts after Dana Gas was forced to halt operations at the Koramur gas field due to security threats. A joint statement by the region's Ministry of Electricity and Ministry of Natural Resources said the suspension cut gas supplies to power plants and caused a major drop in total generation capacity. The Kurdistan government moved to manage the fallout, with the two ministries forming a joint team to oversee the distribution of available electricity to cities and local administrations. Monitoring teams have been tracking generation and transmission as part of efforts to restore stable supply. The ministries assured residents that no gas shortages would affect households and said the Minister of Natural Resources had secured approval from the federal Oil Ministry to meet daily demand. Tanker shipments of gas have begun heading to regional cities, and efforts are underway to restart work at Koramur as soon as conditions allow.
