SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq โ Centers belonging to the Iranian opposition Kurdistan Workers' Party in Iraq's Kurdistan Region came under a fresh attack in Sulaymaniyah on Friday, July 17, 2026, hours after a separate assault in the area killed nine people and wounded several others. Rescue teams have been struggling to reach the sites, which are located in caves and crevices in mountainous, rocky terrain, complicating efforts to search for missing people and recover bodies from the debris.
Ballistic missile and drone strikes continued to hit different locations in the area, and security forces were placed on high alert. Local authorities said the military escalation originating from Iran along the border areas was continuing.
