ERBIL, Iraq โ Nechirvan Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Region, welcomed the announcement of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran, calling on all sides to act in good faith to fully implement the deal. In a post on the X platform, Barzani said the agreement's entry into force would contribute to strengthening stability, security and prosperity in the region.
Barzani thanked all those who worked to facilitate and support the agreement, saying that successful implementation would represent an important step toward consolidating regional stability and expanding cooperation among the parties involved.
The agreement follows weeks of large-scale military escalation, including mutual strikes between the United States, Iran and Israel, threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, and a US naval blockade on vessels linked to Iranian ports. The developments drew regional concern over the risk of a wider conflict.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced that the United States and Iran had reached a peace agreement calling for an immediate and permanent end to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. He said the formal signing ceremony would take place on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland.
