Kurdistan Region cabinet says it is not part of regional conflicts

ERBIL, Iraq — The Kurdistan Regional Government's Council of Ministers said Wednesday that terrorist attacks targeting the region pose a clear threat to the security and stability of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. In a written statement released after the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil, the cabinet said the Kurdistan Region has never been part of regional tensions and conflicts, and has consistently pursued peace, dialogue and good neighborly relations. In the first part of the session, the acting ministers of Natural Resources and of Electricity briefed the council on efforts to resolve gasoline and fuel shortages, restart gas production and return power plants to normal operating capacity. The council directed the Natural Resources Ministry to provide the legal and technical mechanisms needed to prevent market monopolization and ensure fuel reaches citizens at reasonable prices. The cabinet also reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region has the constitutional right to its share, based on population, of oil allocated for domestic consumption. In the second part of the meeting, members reviewed the regional government's preparations for the 2027 federal budget and the Region's constitutional budget entitlements, deciding to hold a joint session with Kurdish members of parliament and relevant ministers.
