ERBIL, Iraq — The Kurdistan Greens Party has launched an environmental initiative calling on political parties and civil society organizations in the Kurdistan Region to replace flower bouquets with saplings and plants at official events. In a written statement, the party said the practice would help establish a sustainable environmental culture and expand green spaces across the region.
The party asked that cypress and other sapling varieties be presented as gifts at all gatherings, with a particular focus on party anniversaries and official celebrations. It said the approach would turn such events into a concrete opportunity to serve the environment and improve the appearance of cities.
The Kurdistan Greens Party said it has long applied the practice at its own internal events and now wants political parties, cultural institutions and community activists to adopt the same tradition. It called on all political and civil structures to embrace the initiative as a shared habit aimed at preserving green areas for future generations.
