Kirkuk hospital delivers healthy triplets by emergency cesarean

KIRKUK, Iraq — A state hospital in the Hawijah district of Kirkuk successfully delivered triplets via emergency cesarean section, the facility's director said. The eight-months-pregnant woman had arrived with severe uterine contractions and bleeding and was taken straight into surgery, according to hospital director Faris Khalil Shihab al-Tamimi. Obstetrician Dr. Rewa Mahmoud Ahmed said the medical team moved quickly once the first-time mother began experiencing labor pains, completing necessary tests and preparing blood units before the operation. The cesarean was carried out successfully, and all three babies were born in healthy condition, Ahmed added. The mother and the triplets are being kept under medical observation at the hospital. Officials said the case reflects the hospital's capacity to handle complex and emergency deliveries in the district. The same facility had carried out a rare quadruplet delivery about two weeks earlier.
