Diyala provincial council removes two committee heads amid inquiry

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Diyala Provincial Council has removed two committee chairpersons as part of an ongoing investigation, local sources said. The council stripped Derya Hayrullah, head of the Education Committee, and Faris al-Jubouri, head of the Energy Committee, of their committee chairmanships and all committee memberships. According to the sources, the decision followed an investigation committee established to review prior statements and written communications by the two officials directed at the council and some of its members. The council said the removal is a direct outcome of its internal review process. With the decision, both figures have ended all duties within the council's committees.
