KARBALA, Iraq โ The Karbala Sports Club interim administration canceled its election congress on Saturday after no administrative board could be formed, the interim board said in a statement. The vote was held under the supervision of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee and within the framework of Law No. 18 of 1986 and its amendment No. 22 of 1988.
The general assembly convened with 129 members present and was overseen by an Electoral Committee headed by National Olympic Committee representative Leys Hader Casim. Eighteen candidates contested the vote, with a victory threshold set at 66 votes.
During the counting, only four candidates crossed the threshold. The Electoral Committee ruled that, because not enough candidates cleared the required vote share, the congress should be canceled and the club should continue to be administered by the interim board.
The four candidates who passed the threshold were Sa'd Mishawi Diab with 74 votes, Ahmed Hiddam al-Amiri with 70 votes, Hussein Matar al-Shuhmani with 69 votes, and Walid Turki Casim with 67 votes. No further details on a rescheduled congress were immediately available.
