AMMAN, Jordan โ€” Jordan's army said Wednesday it intercepted four drones approaching from Iran, with no casualties or damage reported. The announcement followed earlier Jordanian strikes against drone attacks and came as explosions and sirens were heard in the southern city of Aqaba. Iran's semi-official Fars news agency later reported that air defenses in Tehran had engaged and neutralized an "enemy aerial target" in the capital's airspace hours after the Jordan announcement. The Israeli military said it detected missiles fired by Iran toward Aqaba but did not issue warnings or intervene, since the projectiles did not land on Israeli territory. Jordan's Armed Forces had said the previous day it was responding to drone attacks, adding that the drones were neutralized without causing deaths or material damage. The military did not specify the origin of those earlier drones in its initial statement. Iran has said in recent days it carried out multiple strikes on energy facilities in Gulf states as well as U.S. bases in the region, framing them as retaliation for American attacks targeting Iranian territory. No further details on the latest exchange were immediately available.
