Rubio says US seeks diplomatic solution with Iran on nuclear program

WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States wants to reach a diplomatic solution with Iran that guarantees nuclear disarmament, while expressing a lack of trust in the Iranian regime. Speaking to reporters, Rubio said an agreed memorandum of understanding was violated by Iran in less than two weeks after being signed. Rubio accused Iran of targeting commercial traffic on a major maritime corridor, saying the disruption has affected multiple countries. He said the United States remained open to negotiations with Tehran and would continue to defend freedom of navigation at sea. The secretary stressed that Washington would not accept any state controlling sea passages and waterways, and would continue pursuing diplomatic, military and legal measures in parallel.
