JERUSALEM โ€” The Israeli military said on Saturday that airstrikes in the Gaza Strip killed a senior member of Hamas's armed wing and two other operatives. An army spokesman identified one of those killed as Abd al-Rahim al-Kurdi, a doctor who worked at al-Shifa Hospital and served as a deputy commander of a Hamas military cell, saying he had played a role in holding the bodies of hostages Romi Gonen and Noa Martsiano, who were seized during the Oct. 7 attack. The Israeli military said the strikes were carried out on Friday night in Gaza City and targeted a residential building in the Safatawi neighborhood. The spokesman alleged that al-Kurdi had continued to plan attacks against Israeli forces and civilians since the start of the war. The statement also said two other Hamas figures were killed: Muhammad al-Abid, described as a "logistics official," and Ahmed al-Ankar, identified as one of the movement's "commanders." The Israeli military released footage of the strikes on social media.
