Israeli military says it holds operational control over 70% of Gaza

WASHINGTON, United States — The Israeli military said it has established operational control over roughly 70 percent of the Gaza Strip. Southern District Commander Major General Yaniv Asur said the control area is expected to be expanded further in the coming months. Asur outlined three parallel lines of work: eliminating threats along the so-called "Yellow Line," expanding operational control and defensive infrastructure, and preparing for a possible future operation against Hamas. Israeli officials have voiced concern that Hamas is obstructing implementation of the ceasefire and rebuilding its military capacity. In Rafah, the military is working to create a cleared area under the U.S.-backed "Green City" initiative. Washington has launched a tender process for the project, which is designed to host 50,000 Palestinians who would undergo security screening. A large-scale operation in Gaza City is reportedly being planned if Hamas continues to refuse disarmament.
